Buttermilk Retail Park is essential to Putaruru; not just to fulfil the needs of the locals currently shopping out of town, but to also provide a retail experience for those from the greater region, in addition to both domestic and international tourists. We see the pulling power of the adjacent 'Agri-Park', together with the 'Retail-Park', being the key drivers for drawing significant numbers of people to the region and thereby additional shoppers to Buttermilk Retail-Park.
The Retail Park will host specialist outdoor recreational-sports stores. Ie those catering for hunting, fishing, camping and the like, together with a cycle store that will also support regional cycle-ways tourism. Buttermilk Retail Park will be home to rural services banks and ancillary businesses, specialty food retailers and a country themed family restaurant/bar complete with micro-brewery. Comfortably away from the main centre retail strips, the other aspect of the retail Park will be the Outlet stores. These will occupy a central building accessible from 3 sides. Home to all the key outlet brands plus some new arrivals on the scene. This will have bus parking nearby to facilitate out-of-town shoppers to band together and head to Buttermilk, plus make it easy for the tour buses to stop on the way.
Buttermilk will offer the 'Difference' – the X FACTOR. It will encourage residents of the district to shop local – and entice motorists travelling the SH1, to make Buttermilk Putaruru their 'Revive and Survive' stopover location.

The easiest way to explain Buttermilk is as a permanent Field days 365 days a year, located in Putaruru, central WaikatoBUTTERMILK. A by-product of the butter making process; the stuff left over after the cream has been flogged when making butter..... And so it was that Rank Group bought Carter Holt Harvey, they then flogged all the cream and we bought the by-product, which we call BUTTERMILK, Putaruru Ltd.
This bold and dynamic first brings together 4 commercial sectors in one comprehensive development : 14.5 Ha of commercial ecstasy!

Buttermilk is central to some 16,000 farms within about an hour’s drive.
It is situated both on State Highway 1, and on the East – West link between Port of Tauranga and the King Country.
The focus of Buttermilk is to provide a home for the vast range of business groups that service the rural sector, in one form or another, be that a trolley full of groceries, some new clobber for Saturday night, a feed-out wagon, a new ute, a tractor service or a day course for the farm cadet. About the Site
Buttermilk is situated just off SH1 centrally located at the cross road of the Waikato, King Country and Bay Of Plenty. Putaruru is within two hours drive of two thirds of the New Zealand's population with Buttermilk Putaruru being less than one hour's drive from Tauranga, Rotorua, Taupo and Hamilton and Auckland a two hour drive and at the heart of New Zealand's most prime dairy country and forestry industry.
The 14.5 hectare Buttermilk site was originally the home of the Taupo Totara Trading Company sawmill which started life in 1936. Unfortunately for the town the mill was closed down at the end of 2008 with the loss of 230 jobs.
The new owners have a vision to help recreate at least 230 jobs back onto the site over the next few years and for Buttermilk to become an iconic tourist and economic driver for the region.

Our Agri-Park will cater for every sector of rural living from static displays, large scale machinery sales and display areas through to The History of Farming Museum, Agricultural Hall of Fame, the Innovation area and excellent tertiary educational facilities. We see the Agri Park not only drawing in people off the land, but schools, and tourists - domestic and international. It will deliver a first of a kind experience in New Zealand and quite possibly the world.
It will be a place where you can not only gather the information, but trial the tractor / machinery / new bike here on the site and make an informed decision. At Buttermilk, buying a tractor wont just be a purchase, it will be an experience! All followed by a lunch in a themes cafe.
The scope is limitless with its central location to over 16,000 farms of 5 hectares and over.

A strength to be promoted within our Trade park is the close promximity to Buttermilks private rail siding and its direct access to the Port of Tauranga making it the obvious choice for warehousing, distribution, import and export.
Buttermilk is at the heart of Waikatos arterial roading network - north, south, east and west, therefore strategically situated for all aspects of distribution.
Preference in the Trade Park will be given to agricultural aligned insdustries.
